Cells

Cells are the basic structure of any living thing. They have many organelles. Here are all of the organelles and their functions:
Nucleus:
It is the control center of the cell. It also contains the genetic material

Ribosomes:
They are spread all over the cytoplasm. They produce the protein for the cell

Golgi Bodies:
They look like some pancakes stacked together. They gather all of the substances produced by the cell and distribute them through out the cell.

Endoplasmic Reticulum:
They transport the proteins trough out the cell. they also look like stacked pancakes

Mitochondria:
The mitochondria produce the energy for the cell. They are like the power plants of the cell.

Vacoule:
The vacoules are the storage rooms of the cells. They are big and yellow.

Cytoplasm:
The citoplasm is a gell type fluid that fills the cell.

Lysosome:
They clean up all of the left overs inside the cell. They are the clean up crew.

Games!

Here are some very educational games I found on the net.
The first one is a game that won the Noble Prize. In this game YOU take part in the cell division, I personally recommend this game so you learn and have fun at the same thme. Don't doubt and play it!
This is a very simple but educational game. You will learn the stages of mitosis VERY fast! This game will be help full when you have a Mitosis Exam soon. Playing it will make you smarter.

why am I doing this project?

Hello!
My name is Louis Gonick. I am a 7th grade student. My purpose is to inform students about the very interesting process that is called MITOSIS. On this blog you will find some very well done games designed in order that you learn in a fun way. Harcourt Latin America hired me to design a very eduactional game about mitosis.

This project was designed for an audience ages 10 and up, it was made to help them on their studies and to make them learn without sitting down on a class. I work in Harcourt Latin America headquarters in Quito-Ecuador.

My informative game is going to be made on Microsoft Power Point, Micromedia Fireworks for the templates. Also to gather info to make a well done project I will use Wikipedia and some other online enciclopedias. The pictures and videos will be obtained from Youtube,Wikimedia and some other sites that offer media downloads. Additionally I will use this blog to share the results with the world.

So What's Mitosis?

Ok. Mitosis is when one Eukaryotic cell separates the chromosomes inside its nucleus. The chromosomes are some organized stuctures of DNA that carry all of the genetic information.

Here is a picture of a dog lung cell on the anaphase stage:

Mitosis also happens inside you! I am sure that right now there are millions of cells going through mitosis inside you. this is a picture of a muscle cell in the anaphase state:

In resume Mitosis is the process in which the chromosomes inside a cell separate to make an identical copy.
